For most of us, two dimes are nothing more than loose change rattling in our pockets. But those 20 cents are all it takes to provide someone in need with a day’s worth of HIV medication. That’s why (RED) is making it easier than ever to put those extra coins to use with its EAT (RED), SAVE LIVES campaign.
Throughout June the organization is partnering with chefs and restaurants around the country to help turn your food and drink choices into a way to, in its words, #86AIDS.
“Eighty-six in the restaurant world means ‘We’re done,’ we don’t have any more of that,” New York-based chef Elizabeth Falkner notes. “And that’s what we want to do with AIDS. We need to 86 AIDS.” She’s just one of the culinary titans (in addition to Angie Mar, Sara Kramer and Jessica Koslow, just to name a few) who are banding together for secret pop-up dinners in New York and Los Angeles, where proceeds from each ticket can provide up to 90 days of medication. Can’t make it to this traveling dinner series? Here are a few other restaurants and food companies across the country that are making saving a life as easy as filling up your plate.
Order a smoked Manhattan cocktail or a plate of fried chicken at Mar’s West Village restaurant and $1 will go towards (RED).
For sweet tooths, a limited-edition box of red velvet and red chocolate macarons will contribute $5 to the cause.
Head to Union Square and grab a specially designated (RED) table at Hong Thaimee’s Thai comfort food spot.
Laetitia Rouabah’s bistro has a brand new wine bar where you can sip on a special glass of (RED) wine.
After you’ve ordered the obligatory focaccia di recco, browse the special (RED) menus at both Pizzeria Mozza and Osteria Mozza.
Niki Nakayama’s modern kaiseki menu isn’t the only reason to get excited about scoring a coveted reservation—for every table booked, n/naka is making a donation to the campaign.
Go ahead, order another glass: Each wine section at this L.A. stalwart has a special varietal that will benefit (RED).
You have 14 restaurants (including Stephanie Izard’s Girl & the Goat) to choose from this month if you want to make your night out do double duty as a way to give back.
Normally we don’t need an excuse to have ice cream shipped to our door, but get a box of this month’s flavors, which include ricotta toast with red berry jam and Ndjali Estate vanilla, and $6 gets donated to fighting AIDS.
This beloved workwear company is making a special red denim apron, with 25 percent of its proceeds going directly to (RED).
For every classic Red Vine pizza (mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, Parmesan and basil) and Coke sold, this fast-casual chain is donating a dollar.
